You Have an Enemy

Someone mentioned how she was struggling with her self esteem to the point that she had an eating disorder. Her life started changing when one day a person told her these words, "Do you know that you have an enemy?" A lot of times we don't think of that especially when we are living of the world. We do not know that there are forces working against us and their goal is to bring us down. Well...

Do you know that you have an enemy?
Scripture says in Revelation 12:12 "..Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time."
As fictional as it may sound, the devil is the enemy. See, he already knows that he has been defeated, he also knows that "he has a short time" remaining and so his one goal is you. He has his eye on you and looks for every opportunity to bring you down.  Scripture in 1 Peter 5:8 also says " Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour." Can you imagine a spiritual being whose eyes are always looking around for someone to devour? That is his mission. Did you know that he also tempted Jesus, but Jesus overcame him.

So we know that we are "fearfully and wonderfully"  made by God. Psalms 139:14. We are also know that God has good thoughts for us, "thoughts of peace and not evil, to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11. But then we start doubting our beauty and purpose in this life. There is hopelessness. Surely this is not from God. Now you know that you have an enemy, so what? My point is not to scare you, but to empower you. Hosea 4:6 "My people  are destroyed for lack of knowledge." Now here is the important information, the devil has already been defeated; when Christ died for our sins and was resurrected. Yes, we do not have the ability to overcome the devil on our own but that is also the good news; we are not asked to do this on our own .
"He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." Psalms 91:1
That is the point, our strength lies in the Lord. We begin our journey of victory when we live under the Lordship of Christ; the One who has already overcome. We begin this journey when we accept the sacrifice of Christ on the cross, when He saved us from eternal condemnation and gave us power to overcome the world. "If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9

For "we do not war against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places." Ephesians 6:12. Therefore armor yourself, with the "whole armor of God" as per Ephesians 6:13-14 and Pray always to God in the name of Jesus; that is how we overcome.
