When Opportunity Strikes

This is actually an article that I wrote in my early blogging days, but it was not in "season" so to say, so I never published it. It was inspired from a preaching in church, on opportunity and the parable of the talents. So that's  what I am going to talk about today; Opportunity. There is this well known saying in Ecclesiastes that at some point EACH one of us is given opportunity. Ecclesiastes is believed to have been written by Solomon, the wisest man there will ever be.

He says that time and chance happens to all of us. Thus, "the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to men of understanding, nor favor to men of skill..." 9:11. What I understand by this verse is that we have been equipped with whatever we need and everything necessary to get to the place God wants us to be. So no one is special and no one is favored over the other.
"For there is no partiality with God." Romans 2:11
In the parable of the talents by Jesus, a master leaves his three servants in charge of his goods. To one he gives five talents, to the second two talents and to the third one. Each had been given according to the ability that they had. The first invested the five talents into five more and the second likewise, into two more.

Ironically, the one who had been given one talent, knowing very well of his master's character as a hard man, chose not to invest in the talent and hid it. So he had nothing to show off and the one he had was taken and given to the servant with the ten talents Matthew 25. Each of this was given equal opportunity. Equal in that each one of them was given depending on his ability. I have actually written on this, seehere

Opportunity happens. Maybe sometimes we are too blinded, living under the darkness to see clearly what the Lord has in store for us; or maybe we are too preoccupied by the things happening around or what others are saying to us; or we fear what awaits us, that we may not be making the right choice; or we are too lazy, too unwillingly... to act, procrastinating every now and then, I am guilty of that.

I was reminded in a motivational video on the Power of now, that anyway, we can only be sure of the time we have now as expressed in this quote; "Do it I say, whatever you want to do, do it now. There are only so many tomorrows". Either way, I believe that we can only overcome most of these challenges with God, by having a close relationship with Him. Actually nothing good is possible without God. How do you view the opportunities before you?

So I continued and developed this article, read it here
