Chasing the Wind

Is it really possible to live a life and leave the creator out of it? Can we say we lived? "For as the body without the spirit it is dead..." James 2:26. Could we ever claim to be fully purposed, satisfied? In a  world so demanding; If I am not making enough, then I am not beautiful enough, cool enough, intelligent enough, interesting enough...So many expectations to meet.

Is it even a surprise that we are moving from one relationship to another, one job to another, marijuana to heroine to cocaine, we can never have enough to drink; One high after another. "Vanity of vanities," says the Preacher; "Vanity of vanities, all is vanity." Ecclesiastes 1:2.  This is a book in the bible that at first had me wondering, how or why it is there. One thing I love about it though, is how it openly displays the mind of a man living of the world. King Solomon, the writer, was the wisest among us. The richest in his times. Yet even, he, could never really have enough; 700 wives can tell that story all too well. He explains that going after the worldly things is like "chasing after the wind". You do not know where it will and you can never catch.

From my experience, there will always be something lacking without God. Soon enough, one feels empty, lost, lacking. Now and then we lie to ourselves that when we are earning more, free enough, in better relationships, then we will be happy; everything will fall into place. But even this, can never bring complete satisfaction. We are seeking where we cannot find and going after things we cannot get a grasp of. Man was made to have a relationship with the creator, God and to worship Him. This would be his point of reference. Without the creator, man is nothing. One thing I can assure of in the Lord, is hope, Hope in Jesus and a place of identity.  For

All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. John 1:3

Jesus came to set the captives free. So that we are no longer of this world and the things of this world do not have a hold of us. "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man's all." Ecclesiastes 12:13

Great lyrics, with a country/rock music tune; "Greater" by Mercyme
